If NYPD had learned his name, which you'd think they would have, it seems like it would be released in news reports.

Now, they claim to have found a backpack, in Central Park, and are investigating to see if it's the killer's. The thing off with that is that the picture being shown of the found backpack looks like nothing like the one the killer was wearing. WTF?
