about the fact that the GOP has a microscopic lead in the House, and his whole legislative agenda is DOA if he doesn't work with the Democrats.

This is a man who has never had to compromise on anything. He didn't during his first term, and there is no real indication that he has learned since then. What's more if he does try to compromise with the Democrats, the reactionaries in his own party would have a meltdown. This is going to be an interesting four years.
