In reply to the discussion: Another consideration if Trump gives Ukraine to Putin: [View all]Emrys
(8,050 posts)17. That's certainly borne out by the current rhetoric from Kremlin-sponsored mouthpieces on Russia's media
They're basking in their image of Russia as a glorious imperial power continually seeking to expand and suppress any countries - the decadent "Nazis", the disgusting West where so many of them have hypocritically been only too happy to spend time and enjoy the fruits - that don't bend to its will. They're delusional, of course, but that's the underlying motivation and public stance, in their own deranged words.
That's why I'm so skeptical about any talk that concessions by Ukraine during any negotiations will buy any lasting piece. If Russia's leadership lacks any vision of a future where the country prospers within its existing borders, and not just its oligarchy, then it can never be trusted in any way.

Same here. Taking Ukraine would be the easy part for Putin. Holding and controlling it would be the challenge.

They want the LAND. That area is full of natural resources. The towns are destroyed.

Yes rigid control takes a lot of ground troops. And 250,000 brutal police and Stasi.

I think there could be some mental masturbation going on between Trump and Putin right now.

Thats it! The WORST thing Putin can do is gloat. Trump will treat him like Pence.
