This is exactly how they want us to feel.

We will never look back on this period and think, "Oh, that was fun." It's a low for us. But we and our leaders must use our strength and courage now more than ever.

The timing of elections allows for a quiet time in Washington just when we need to see our representatives in action and we want someone to say, "Don't worry. We'll get through this." There is regrouping and shifting going on.

There will be ample opportunity for them to do so after Congress reconvenes. Heather Cox Richardson says we will find out that not all Republicans on the Hill are complete idiots and there will be enough in total to help avoid complete catastrophe while we rebuild. I believe her.

So don't get too excited, Putin. It ain't over 'til it's over.
