Down significantly from just a decade ago.
Less than 6% of Americans have engineering degrees.
We get about 70,000 new engineers a year in America, we need like 400,000 a year. Its an issue.
And while I think this visa issue is being used for an agenda, the country does need to do more to encourage kids to go into STEM.

Why does R&D require talent from outside of the US? Why can't we easily train Americans for all tech jobs?

Is that why? Ughh...Right now it's very hard to get into nursing schools. (Yep!) We still have nursing shortages.

Exactly. Same with the Bar Exam. It's all meant as gate keepers for keeping supply down to keep the pay high. nt

As I stated in my OP, high end R&D jobs do require top talent, but that's not most tech jobs.
