The subject line isn't about how voters voted. It is about complaints of working class voters that their paychecks aren't covering their bills. It is true that more Black voters knew there were other, more critical, issues and voted Democratic despite our poor response to this concern. But that doesn't change the reality that working class workers (regardless of race) are not, in general, feeling the impact in their day-to-day lives, of the macro improvement in the economy.
As for black voters, specifically, there were additional issues at play: (1) We failed to effectively counter the "why bother voting" and even though Black voters voted overwhelmingly for Harris, in many states Black voter turnout was down from the 2020 election and (2) We were unable to effectively counter Trump's message (and societal prejudice) that any male (regardless of race) is better than a woman message and that message enticed a statistically significant portion of Black men to vote for Trump. (Slightly different phrasing because I think the former was more realistic for us to effectively counter than the latter.)
