But Trump, liar that he is, has upped his game. He lied again, even more extravagantly when he said he knew nothing about Project 2025, or when he said he would bring down prices at the grocery store or at the gas pumps pretty damn quick. He didn't try very hard to appear convincing, however. He'd learned that enough people didn't care whether he was lying or not. Repetition of the lies was useful, but selling the lies just wasn't worth the trouble. Truth just didn't matter to enough people to matter very much at all.
Still, compulsive liars lie compulsively. They are rarely conversant with reality. And so, in a few weeks, we will hear another inaugural speech from this man who has visited so much chaos and confusion on this suffering nation. We will be told what a sorry state the country is in, as we were told after the black guy left office, though it's much worse now. We will hear about deporting millions upon millions of Mexicans. We will hear saber rattling. And there will be blood that comes from that as our most unstable people have an array of new enemies pointed out to them. Greenlanders and Danes, for instance. And here at home there are unpatriotic men and women, lawyers, and prosecutors, and judges who must be locked away, or eliminated. There will be explosions, and there will mass shootings starting up where they had left off. And should an epidemic or a pandemic strike again, as it almost surely likely, we will once again be in the reckless and feckless hands of the man who oversaw so many hundreds of thousands of unnecessary deaths the last time he was in charge.
It will be a fun house where hardly anyone but the wealthy will be having much fun. And if you aren't scared now, you will be. We're facing the kind of unstable leadership that has, historically, led to every imaginable kind of woe and trouble. Economies quake, wars are engendered, goods and services fluctuate in price wildly. Musk told the truth when he said there would be suffering, and that we should believe. There will be suffering, but not for the people who will be profiting most from it.
The same monotonous lies will be repeated. New ones will be added. The lesson to Americans will be that the enemies are within and without, and they're everywhere. We must fight, fight, fight them to the tooth and to the nail or we won't have a country anymore. It's madness, and it's ours. We have politicians without honor or integrity, we've got throngs of rich people chomping at the bit to get richer. It's a perfect storm. And try as we might, most everyone knows how bad it is and how bad it will get. But power corrupts, and absolute power corrupts absolutely. The election taught us all just how absolute that power has become.
The convicted felon will be taking office soon, blaming everyone but himself for anything and everything, sans facts, sans truth, and without an iota of responsibility for what might come from his reckless and ruthless lies.
And it's going to cost us more than we can imagine. One truth he did tell was that we really won't have much of a country anymore.
Do I exaggerate? We can only hope so.

I agree with all that, except for the part where smirkingchimp says "we will hear another inaugural speech."
