I have used a Singer model from a little later than the 128 all my life. And I also took a few turns on my grandmother's treadle powered Singer. My own machine runs on electricity, but is otherwise capable of few of the thousands of embroidery stitches that modern machines can do. My mother and sister invested in more complex machines than mine, and sewed less and less. And I jave continued to sew place mats, nightgowns, potholders, and clothes in general. No machine is more sensitively geared than a good Singer: You can slow down on a curve and speed up on the straightaway.
