That is very nice of you!

I had noticed on another OP/thread complaining about those gosh-darned ungrateful young people where one friend said it was fine to insult them here, because no young voters are on DU. Gracious! I know quite a few young people who read things on the forum, although they are not members. Some are registered Democrats, but the majority are registered independents. It is not that they think DU is representative of the Democratic Party, but they do identify the bitter and bratty comments as being among the reasons they think the party doesn't care about or represent them. But I can say that Democrats like myself can do outreach to the young independent people to vote for our candidates ....... something that our party has trouble doing.

More, because I am old, I know a lot of old hippies who were long-time Democrats, but who have become registered independents. I was talking to a friend today, who reads DU sometimes, but is not a member. She remains a registered Democrat. But she thinks it is high time the party recognize that it is a few elected party members -- Bernie, AOC, Ilhan Omar, and Jasmine Crockett -- who have the ability to communicate with the younger generation and old hippies.

We will never get a significant number of republicans to vote for our presidential candidates. It is not in their nature, any more than it is in a cow's nature to lay eggs. Bringing the carcass of Dick Cheney on stage won't get republican votes. And it is no more likely to appeal to independent voters than dragging the corpse of Henry Kissinger out on stage. People remember who is responsible for the war in Iraq. They have relatives, friends, and neighbors who either died in Iraq, or came home seriously injured ..... both physically and mentally.

Per my writing: I remember my favorite high school teacher picking me up hitchhiking one day. Now, she never hesitated to point out my flaws ..... in a public speaking class, for example, she told the class that most people are nervous when speaking in public. But, she said, I was unique, in that I was only nervous because I thought I was too good to make a mistake! Ha! Anyhow, on our ride, she told me I was a talented writer, but would not be recognized as one until after I was dead. Hence, I have folders of my writings going back more than fifty years ..... I tell my kids to publish them once I'm dead. (grin)
