Why our congress critters are not out protesting. [View all]

I am chair of a committee with the local Democratic Party. We work on party business: Upcoming Municipal Elections and New Elections Administrator. It is also time for Election Judges to be recertified. We have a list of judges that we need to contact ASAP!
We have to get vote by mail applications out. We are working on having literature for the municipal elections. Meanwhile I have a meeting to run tomorrow. This is sandwiched in with protests. However, a new protest sprung up and will take place during my meeting. I may have no attendance at my meeting. So business will be postponed and another meeting will be added.

This is not really a big deal, but parties are not "protest groups". If we get all wrapped up in protesting We will not have election judges in 2026. We will not have literature for our municipal election. Vote by Mail Applications will not be delivered. We will not have time for GOTV efforts for our municipal election. We will not be prepared for the election.

Now you may think that the local Democratic Party is all about protesting and resisting. It isn't. It's a business organization that has deadlines to meet.

Now just imagine congress? They have ten times work and much more. They can't be missing meetings. They can't ignore quorums, unless it is by design. Just like you didn't know what all went on with my little committee position, we don't know all the work that their jobs entail. They really can't afford to give up their day job in order to protest.

Thank You!

Thank you. People seem to confuse the job of running the government with activism or celebrity. betsuni Mar 2025 #2
Would it be outside the scope of the Democratic party - werdna Mar 2025 #3
Currently, there are outside groups such as Move-On and Indivisible. There are also other groups. LeftInTX Mar 2025 #11

Congress going to every street corner protest or attending a major protest now and then? LeftInTX Mar 2025 #10
No one wants them to "stand on a street corner with a knee jerk reaction." But there is a place Scrivener7 Mar 2025 #12

Imagine if they put Pete and/or Stacy in charge of such an effort. It would save our Democracy. Scrivener7 Mar 2025 #14

I read that in our paper. Also, Trump changes his tactics so often that if a protest is scheduled over "coffee tariffs" LeftInTX Mar 2025 #17
