In reply to the discussion: My disabled daughter went to pick up her meds...no longer free...over $1000.00 [View all]PatSeg
(50,281 posts)15 years ago, I lost my hybrid Medicare/Medicaid plan. In New Hampshire I made just a small amount too much to qualify for New Hampshire's version of Medicaid, so I had to pay for private drug coverage which I could barely afford and that never paid one dime toward any of my prescriptions. I finally had to cancel it.
Meanwhile, I've been prescribed some medications that the drug plan did not cover and that I could not afford. I finally found several overseas drug companies that were much cheaper. Right now I'm on an inhaler that costs $650.00 a month in the states, but I've found it for about $140.00 overseas. It was literally life-saver. I hate private insurance, even those through Medicare Advantage. They are intentionally complicated and often difficult to work with.
I'm so sorry for what your daughter is going through. These people who make such decisions arbitrarily have little or no concept how profoundly they affect other people's lives. I hate these people.
