1. Teachers in Arizona were required to sign a loyalty oath.

The school district I was in famously had two teachers, a married couple, who refused to sign it. I think they may have been Quakers, and that's why the wouldn't sign. Anyway, they worked without pay for several years, and I believe eventually were receiving their salaries.

This was in the early 1960s.
