People from Canada could post where they had been planning to go and connect online with people who actually live there. Those folks would take pictures for them showing that the Canadians weren't there. My imagined caption for the pic could be something like "Here we aren't visiting X."

This should not be a replacement for lost jobs. It being a free and voluntary exchange would also be a statement of solidarity between the people of the two countries.
