2. Right, I was trying to think of how self hate would impact his perception of someone like Putin and other dictators

LIke you said, he is either working for Putin or he is tearing everything down out of spite or perhaps both. Trump’s self-hatred may drive him to admire Putin not just out of strategic interest, but because Putin represents everything Trump wishes he was: powerful, respected (at least through fear), and immune to humiliation. Instead of confronting his own failures, Trump gravitates toward authoritarian figures who provide the illusion of strength. In doing so, he rationalizes his own inadequacies and justifies his own destructive tendencies.
