Mediaite - Sec of State Rubio and Danish Foreign Minister Post VERY Different Takes Following Greenland Meeting

Colby HallApr 4th, 2025, 9:54 am

Secretary of State Marco Rubio recently met with Danish Foreign Minister Lars Løkke Rasmussen, and if you are curious about the tenor of the meeting — well, it depends on who you ask.

The diplomatic meeting comes as President Donald Trump is insisting that the United States ostensibly take over Greenland, which has long been an autonomous territory under the kingdom of Denmark.

The State Department provided an anodyne readout of the meeting:

Secretary of State Marco Rubio met with Danish Foreign Minister Lars Løkke Rasmussen today in Brussels. Secretary Rubio reaffirmed the strong relationship between the United States and the Kingdom of Denmark. They discussed shared priorities including increasing NATO defense spending and burden sharing, and addressing the threats to the Alliance, including those posed by Russia and China. They also reviewed ongoing coordination to enhance stability and security in Europe and to secure an enduring peace in Ukraine.

Secretary of State Rubio struck a similarly convivial tone in his social media post that went up on April 3rd:

Minister Rassmussen, however, had a very different take, even going so far as to suggest the Trump administration’s dalliance with making Greenland a US territory amounted to a “violation of international law.”
