I’m no longer on speaking terms with my sister, and I don’t know a way to fix that. I’m not even sure I care to. Her racism led her to vote for a President who would cheerfully deport my (US citizen) Mexican-American wife, and her entire family (also all US citizens), if he had any bad reason. My sister said we just have a difference of opinion about immigration, but this is a real crisis; my wife is afraid to go out alone, and I’m afraid for her as well. Also, my wife absolutely wants nothing to do with my sister. This is far from the only division between us, but it’s the biggest. How do we reconcile that kind of conflict, in families all across the nation?
