(2,589 posts)What I am suggesting is that our country is so polarized, it might take something really unprecedented to shake the foundations of fascist. A Pritzker/Christie ticket would force the media to move away from the "Left-right horse race" mentality. Of course, for this to work, there would have to be a strong bargain about policies and power sharing. I'd think this would be a single-term commitment, with an agreement to set policy differences aside for 4 years, and dedicate the team effort to restoring the rule of law, returning the SC to a Constitutional basis, restoring and buttressing the independence of inspectors general, putting new firewalls in place to prevent the abuses that Trump got away with, and the elimination of dark money from political campaigns.
As a practical matter, I doubt that Christie could sign on to these things. And if not, then there would be no chance of it working. But if he COULD buy into these principles, this could be a powerful moment, as it would send the clear message that our democracy is more important than most policy differences, especially those that are manufactured to be wedges between people.
In my dream scenario, this ticket would win well over 60% of the popular vote, and practically all of the electors, being a real mandate from the people.
I agree with you that it seems very unlikely because there are so many interests that simply don't want a functioning democracy, government of, by, and for the people.
