(59,439 posts)to be cheating. It's cheating IMO even if teachers are misguided enough to authorize its use.
What's generated by AI is not the work of the AI user, any more than it would be if they hired someone to do the work for them.
If you're being tested for basic math skills, use of a calculator is cheating.
If you're being tested for spelling, use of a spellchecker is cheating.
GenAI tools generate text, images, video and music - all of which result from many separate decisions and skills when humans do them. Having AI do any of those for you, substituting what it can generate as a plagiarism machine - and mindlessly giving users options, since any prompt can keep the AI offering countless options - is in no way comparable to using a calculator or spellchecker.
