While I won’t say that the French and Spanish settlers in Louisiana before 1803 weren’t racist (They were), the color line grew more blurry after several generations. And starting in the last century the color lines slowly, slowly became more blurred (No doubt to the consternation of white supremacist bigots and other Trump fans), leading to folks like His Holiness and a lot more folks.
