If I remember correctly I met some one in DC where I was staying overnight who either was in SA for gov't reasons, or knew some one well who was with the crowd when Nelson Mandela was freed. It was amazing story!

I went down to our City Hall area in NYC for his parade. Very exciting!

One of best things was I went down on a gorgeous Spring day 1994 here in NYC to the UN area where for ?3 days they had Voting Tents set up for the SA'rs here.

Sooo moving! I couldn't stop smiling. Every time I relaxed my face while I was there, like involuntarily my muscles would pull up in a smile. So far no event has ever had me do that again.

I sketched a picture or two of it, and wrote a poem, too.
I was late 30's and well aware (and learning more) of the deficiencies of my country regarding equality, and justice. But, still, this was an extraordinary experience.
