He was anchor of the CBS evening news for six years before he was let go for a series of complaints about the "hostile work environment' and finally took it to the CEO, which would have been Les Moonves at that time. That's how he ended up on 60 Minutes.

Moonves is a world class asshole and things did improve a bit after he was fired.
