Add that to the habit he has of taking at least partial credit for things that other people have done and this is just how he talks.
While I'm certain we are providing some targeting and intelligence information and assisting in coordinating defense systems, Trump isn't directing any part of the operation. I'm pretty sure that will change immediately though if Iran pulls a stupid and attacks any of our troops or assets in the region.
