When Trump learns something new, he has to share it, like a good big boy. So he finds a way to work the "fact" into the conversation, because he thinks nobody else knows it, so it makes him sound smart to know it.

Unfortunately, the whole issue probably came up when Trump was asking how many people would die in a nuclear strike on Tehran.
