Alexander the Great conquered Afghanistan in 330 BC as part of his war against Persia1. He invaded the region, which included the easternmost satrapies of Persia, and faced challenging battles in his conquest12. After the Battle of Gaugamela, Alexander conquered the remaining Persian provinces and began to capture Afghanistan3. His conquest of this rugged and fiercely inhabited region had a lasting impact4.
