(28,941 posts)will awaken the masses. I get tired of repeating myself, however, and I’m tending back toward the ‘frog in a pot of water being heated’ analogy. My pessimism is gaining the upper hand, so I think there will be nothing past mere aggrievement. By the time people burn through their proudly-obtained final tank of cheap gas, the world will have changed in unprecedented and unimaginable ways - even for me, and I spend way too much time running scenarios in my head anyway.
The rump regime will now unleash a deluge of wartime powers - real and imaginary, mostly unlawfully - to the detriment of everyone worldwide. And they’ll get help from enemies of the USA who didn’t just quit hating when the orange menace first corrupted the office of president. They’ve been biding their time to carry out asymmetrical attacks, and American pilots dropping bombs on Iran seems a likely tripwire for commencing… well, who TF knows? Our intelligence community is presently focused on Democrats - not international terrorism.
Slap me silly for saying so, but a military government for a brief transitional time is in my top 5 favorable scenarios - not favorable personally, but favorable existentially.
