ICE Murdered Jorge Rosales while in custody [View all]

No Record, No Rest: The Death of Jorge Rosales in ICE Custody

The similarities between this and the early deaths in WWII concentration camps is chilling, with one difference. The Nazis were initially required to report deaths in the camps.

This is even worse.

———-

Summary: On social media, the son-in-law of Jorge Rosales confirmed that Rosales died while in ICE custody. But more than two weeks later, there is no official acknowledgment—no death notice, no facility record, and no entry on ICE’s public Detainee Death Reporting page. This directly violates ICE policy and raises urgent questions about transparency and accountability.

1. Who Was Jorge Rosales?

Very little is publicly known about Jorge Rosales, other than the heartfelt testimony of his family. His son-in-law, in a post shared by u/hopeemmab, stated that Rosales passed away in detention and gave permission for his story to be shared. The family is calling for answers. ICE has offered none.

2. What Does the Policy Say?

According to ICE’s 2021 policy on Notification, Review, and Reporting Requirements for Detainee Deaths:

ICE must issue a public report within two business days of a detainee’s death.
All in-custody deaths must undergo internal investigation and be posted on the official ICE website.
DHS is federally mandated to publish the full death review within 90 days.
As of June 23, 2025, there is no record of Jorge Rosales’s death under Fiscal Year 2025 or prior entries.

3. Why Does This Matter?

This isn’t just about one man—it’s about the systemic erasure of accountability. When a person dies under government custody, their name deserves to be said, their death acknowledged, and the circumstances made public. Anything less invites impunity.

“If ICE can disappear a name, it can disappear the truth. And maybe that’s the point.”
4. What Now?

We call for the following:

Immediate release of Jorge Rosales’s death record by ICE.
Independent verification through FOIA requests and third-party watchdogs.
Support for the Rosales family, who are left grieving and demanding answers.
