(1,961 posts)After reading the article a second time, I see that being a person opposed Trump while breathing air can considered to be a violent threat no matter how innocuous their actions. Those persons are automatically suspect in the mind of this officer. And believe it or not, he (or she now) is also scared. They are going to be on a hair trigger.
Sooner or later there is going to be a police riot. There will be a stray shot or just a loud firecracker from who knows where and one of the agents decides his life is in danger. He randomly shoots the person in front of him. Back home where I grew up, what happens next is what we called buck fever. One man fires and they all let loose. And they keep firing until they run out of ammunition. It will be a massacre. It could very well be the spark that sets off mass violence.
One more thought. Think of the Kent State massacre. Quoting the wikipedia article, "Twenty-eight National Guard soldiers fired about 67 rounds over 13 seconds". They were carrying WWII vintage semiautomatic M1 Garand rifles. At best they can fire 2 rounds in 3 seconds or all 8 in those 13 seconds. With those 67 shots they managed to kill four people and physically wound 9 more. Given that these people involved in these ICE roundups are all cops of one kind or another, I can assume that the long guns they are carrying are probably M4s capable of firing 30 rounds in 3 seconds on full auto. Those same 28 cops could theoretically fire 840 rounds in that same 13 second. I will leave it up to you to consider and contemplate the possible consequences of that scenario. Once the shooting starts, I have absolutely no reason to think that there will be any fire discipline displayed. With the exception of the Marines, these guys are not drilled and trained soldiers. They may (or may not) have badges, but in reality they are just a bunch of semi strangers with guns. It is a formula for disaster.
