Keep in mind that she was a British socialite. In a 2023 interview she now denies the evidence that she and Epstein were photographed with Prince Andrew, claiming the photo was faked, and an FBI investigation into Prince Andrew has now been dropped.

When Alex Acosta claimed that he was told to drop his case against Epstein because Epstein was "intelligence" and "above his paygrade" it probably had a lot to do with protecting the British Royal family, as well as other high-level figures. Maxwell's father, Robert Maxwell, had been a member of UK Parliament representing Buckinghamshire in 1964 and later headed a publishing empire. This likely gave Ghislaine access to her aristocratic connections and, perhaps, Epstein access to Robert Maxwell's shady intelligence connections.

Having said that, Maxwell's family is doing everything possible to have her released and perhaps pardoned by Trump.
