(15,387 posts)59. I took the amount I would begin to receive at full retirement (66 years 8 months)
And extended that out to age 70 when the full enhancement would kick in and then figured out how long it would take to reach the amount for 3 years and 4 months.
But it doesn't stop there because as I would have recovered the deficit in the first few years, the full retirement benefits would continue to be paid out (look at it as two steps forward, one step back situation).
Extrapolating that data, I wouldn't have caught up until 82 and it's not a given that I will last that long even given my commitment to a healthy lifestyle.
That drove my decision.
