Is there "overt bias being acted out as a virtue for the sake of appearing righteous to others?" How would we know that to be the case? Are there not entirely legitimate objections to the actions by the Israeli government in Gaza?
The atrocities committed by Hamas get condemnation every time the topic comes up. I would call that "frequent."
The criticism of Israel has been relatively mild in the US given the humanitarian crisis in Gaza. I wouldn't say there has been a "never-ending deluge." You say there have been "indiscriminate ill-conceived accusations." I think those are pretty rare. Most of the accusations are accurate.
No matter how evil Hamas is that would never justify going after a civilian population.
Defending Israel as a home for the Jewish people, the need to protect that safe home at all costs, and recognition of the centuries of programs and mass murder, and the bigotry and persecution suffered by the Jewish people, are vitally important. It is also important to acknowledge that as the basis for support for the state of Israel. Many, probably most people who are not Jewish do not understand that, and criticism of Israel almost always includes someone in the discussion pushing various antisemitic ideas.
That said, what the Netanyahu government is doing in Gaza is horrific and unacceptable.
