If he's convinced a Democrat will be sworn in as president in Jan 2029, it would be a smart move to get the pardons.

But is Trump smart enough to overcome his ego and hubris after getting away with everything for so many years?

Hell, he probably thinks he'll get a 3rd term. That certainly is his intent.
