My current firm is really enlightened and when I tell this story to the baby attorneys I'm training (especially when we have office roundtables about things like unconscious bias), they literally can't even believe it happened to me. All they've ever known me as is their knowledgeable, experienced mentor - that they would never have had if this awful manager had gotten her way back in the late 90s. Millennials and Gen Z just seem to take it for granted that women and POC and LGBTQ+ will be treated with respect in the workplace and it's one of the things I love about their generations.

Hear ya on the struggle. It's something that, if it gets talked about at all in public discourse, often gets mocked or dismissed as if it's a choice ("Just do some pushups and eat less" they crow). As if we haven't tried everything (though I refuse to do the GLP-1s - no thanks to going blind or never enjoying food again). Sending you hugs in solidarity!
