3. Long read, but good one.

1. Bashar has expressed absolutely no interest in retuning.

2. Two of his family appear to be jockeying to be the top guy, so it won't be long before they turn their guns on each other.

3. It appears they both want cut out a portion of the costal area and create a different nation.

4. Russia has shown no interest in helping them. The current regime is honoring the treaties made with Russia to keep their bases.

5. Finally, a lot of the Alawites seem to have no more love for the Assad family. They have some troops still loyal to the old government but doesn't appear to be enough.
