Himes: GOP lawmakers concerned 'in private' about inspector general report on Hegseth [View all]

Rep. Jim Himes (D-Conn.) said Sunday that his Republican colleagues are expressing concerns privately after an inspector general report found that Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth jeopardized troop safety and violated Pentagon policy.

“Absolutely, they’re saying it in private,” Himes told host Margaret Brennan on CBS News’s “Face the Nation.” “In public, of course, they’re saying that it was perfect exoneration, right?”

The 84-page report from the Defense Department’s Office of Inspector General (OIG), released Wednesday, found that Hegseth put American troops in danger by discussing a pending strike on alleged Houthi targets in Yemen on the Signal app.

The OIG report also determined that Hegseth flouted department policy in sharing details of the strike on the messaging app, which were revealed when then-national security adviser Mike Waltz accidentally added Jeffrey Goldberg, the editor in chief of The Atlantic, to a group chat with administration officials.
