12. Oh, I should have added the concept of "railroading". If local officials want you convicted, you get convicted.

It's true in more places than it's not. Only in really high profile cases does the unjustly accused stand a fighting chance.

Politics and "justice" are always more corrupt at the local level, where there's the least scrutiny. There are plenty of famous wrongful convictions in the historical record; pardons and retrials are the exception, not the rule.
