4. America's condition must be more than a punchline to the world -- it should be a bold warning to every liberal democracy

It can and does happen to other countries whose electorates fail to see the threat -- e.g. Argentina and Chile, recently. Fascists are running strong all over the world in the lead-up to the pending climate mass migrations, as anti-immigrant sentiments simmer beneath thin veneers of "Christian" decency. The coming suffering and bloodshed will shame and stain our global partners forever if they don't pay attention to the warning signs. There really won't be any use for "punchlines" if they don't see this broad systemic failure as the bright red flashing "Check Engine" idiot light that it is; yeah there's some humor mixed in there, especially when observed from a distance, but "global" really needs to take a long careful look under the hood. All those precious public institutions so important to societies' self conceptions can be dismantled, looted for profit, and hung out to dry or turned against those who need them most. Everything is fungible, nothing is safe. Like all things built on trust: easily broken, prohibitively difficult to repair.
