Is an interesting use of terms and symbolic of the issues.
The problem isn't "social issues" but messaging. It's not about "sports" it's about equality. As many times as we've been through this you would think it would have sunk in.
Black folk and other people of color couldn't play sports or just about anything else. Now they can.
Women couldn't play sports or just about anything else. Now they can.
Gays and Lesbians couldn't play sports or just about anything else. Now they can.

All still have their very obvious challenges but that's the point, isn't it? Equality still has its challenges and fights, even now. Some other groups feel slighted as well because they feel people are focusing on *insert other group* and they are still facing their own sexism or racism or bigotry.
That is the heart of the issue really. We, as a society, can't get out of our own. Some think that if some are getting attention then it will make noise and hurt their rights. Sometimes we forget that rising tide lifts all ships.
All rights matter. One group getting human rights does not hurt anyone else's rights.
It surely doesn't hurt the rights of straight white males.
