some companies have track records where their machine tallies match exit polls exactly, and some companies have machines that have been way off from the exit polls. You probably noticed this, because all of a sudden the government and media let us know that exit polls are unreliable. This was covered extensively here on DU after the 2004 election.

It's too bad Google won't give results from left wing media, so we can't search for articles about this now.
