The last "golden age" was the era of the robber barons with their violent takedowns of striking workers, etc. in the latter half of the 19th Century.

Teddy Roosevelt was instrumental in bending that toward justice for a while, until Repubs gave us the Great Depression and FDR again rescued the middle class.

It's a never ending battle to rein in the excesses of the CEO class.
