...many of us would have been pissing and moaning about policy particulars, not knowing from what we'd been saved.

I know that would include me.

What a joy that would have been. Rather than collapsing in orgiastic excess the United States would have remained a widely respected world power, engaged in the preservation of the world's best outcomes.
