1. I'd be curious to know what if any contractual or other rights

are usually retained by musical artists over the use of their work for political purposes. (My guess would be that few retain any at all.)

I'm glad they're objecting after the fact, but it would be better if artists did retain such "moral" rights and if unpermitted use triggered a penalty severe enough to ensure that potential violators were effectively deterred.
