1. I wouldn't want the head of the Department of Homeland Security to come to my house to fix a pipe break

because unlike an expert plumber, the head of DHS is not an expert at plumbing. But for some reason it's elitist to say that a plumber shouldn't be the head of the Department of Homeland Security.

This attitude that we don't need experts to fill jobs that require a specific expertise is part of why we're in the mess we're in right now. I don't see it as elitism, just common sense.
