That ridiculous hair style takes a lot of time and effort and I don't think he's up for it anymore. Plus he seems to be losing more hair.

He could pay for a good stylist and get a more reasonable haircut that is easier to maintain, but he really thinks his bouffant hairstyle is very handsome. The more people make fun of his hair, the more he clings to that style.

He is so high maintenance and he doesn't have the energy anymore for the facade.
