I read about them yesterday and wondered if asylum was on the cards. This has answered my question.

The federal government has confirmed five Iranian football players will remain in Australia after seeking asylum.

Home Affairs Minister Tony Burke says he met with the women last night and told them they were "welcome to stay in Australia".
