I would have more faith in those claiming the Trump administration won't do something if they hadn't already been wrong so many times before.

"Trump won't deport American citizens."

"Trump won't order the military on U.S. streets."

"Trump can't just kill Americans."

"Trump can't start a war with Iran, only Congress can declare war."
