A painting of a bloodied but unbowed Donald Trump, rivers of red running down his face and his fist in the air after a 2024 assassination attempt, now hangs in the White House in a spot where the official portrait of Barack Obama once hung. The creator of the canvas? Florida artist Marc Lipp, first identified by New York Post.

“There is no greater joy than entering my studio, that space where I step into a world of infinite possibilities,” said the artist in an Instagram post. “Each brushstroke, or airbrush, each mix of color, brings me closer to the realization of my vision. It’s where my soul finds peace and my creativity knows no limits.”

The new installation, wrote the New York Times, “drew criticism from some presidential historians, who could not recall another president hanging a painting of himself during his term in the White House.” Karoline Leavitt, the White House press secretary, said in a statement that the “executive mansion is the president’s home, and he has the right to make changes as other presidents have in the past,” adding, “Only The New York Times would find a problem with this.”
