2. The John Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Act and the Freedom to Vote Act couldn't pass

in the Senate -- didn't have sixty filibuster-proof votes (of course zero Republican votes) and Manchin and Sinema refused to vote for eliminating the filibuster.

Biden: "To protect our democracy, I support changing the Senate rules, whichever way they need to be changed -- to prevent a minority of senators from blocking actions on voting rights. ... So I ask every elected official in America: How do you want to be remembered? At consequential moments in history, they present a choice: do you want to be on the side of Dr. King or George Wallace? Do you want to be on the side of John Lewis or Bull Connor? Do you want to be on the side of Abraham Lincoln or Jefferson Davis?"

What exactly could Democrats have done that they didn't do?
