(8,113 posts)At the most basic level, oppression tends to beget oppression because it replicates the power of the dominant group. Reminds me of the old cartoon of the man having a bad day at work, berating his wife and kids, and even the dog at home.
Israel is now committing atrocities reminiscent of what they experienced historically. In cases where genocides occur, there are always calls for outside nations to come make them stop - to rescue. That intervention can itself result in more horrors. I'm thinking of the case of Haiti where some of the rescue groups after the massive earthquake committed human rights violations that were common among the Haitian corrupt gangs and power elites.
In Israel's case, it's not that they don't recognize they are being genocidal. It is a conscious decision. That's the disconnect that I cannot fathom. With their history, how could they repeat it on others? And is there any outside pressure that can stop them?
