6. I get the impulse to kick him to the curb, but we need him more at this point

The first vote of any Congress is for who is the leader. His point of greatest leverage would be if we have an unbelievably successful November and end up with 51 Senators ... Including him.

This also could lead to a very nasty situation in the 2028 primary. Before it, he has three choices. One is to switch to Republican with the party backing him in the primary. (Think senator Spector) A second is to run in the Democratic party arguing that in January 2027 he preserved our 51 by not switching. A third is number two with the EXPLICIT promise that if he loses the primary, he switches to support the Republicans.

That first vote means a lot. In the hopeful chance we just take the Senate, it means Democrats control all committees. ( Consider that we might get the chance to "honor" the McConnell precedent if any SCJ retires in 2027 or 2028. Note that if there are no hearings, there is no vote.)
