3. My Dad died in 2021, on January 6, oddly enough.

He was a B-17 pilot, based in Italy and North Africa near the end of the war. He made a point every year about Memorial Day being for people who had died while serving in a war. He did not, and would not accept being lauded on that day. He lost too many of his friends while he was there.

We all miss our aged or departed relatives who served during WWII. Few remain. My thoughts today, though, go to those who did not return home to their families and friends. They are who we should remember and honor today.
